Solar inverters

The inverter is the brain of a solar system — it turns the DC your panels produce into usable AC, and on hybrid models it also manages a battery. Picking the right topology matters more than any single spec, which is why we group our range by type and by brand.

We carry string inverters for straightforward roofs, hybrid inverters for battery-ready installs, and microinverters where shading or panel-level monitoring is the priority.

What this category covers

Hybrid inverters

Battery-ready inverters that manage solar, storage and grid in a single unit.

String inverters

Cost-effective single- and multi-string units for unshaded roofs.

Microinverters

Panel-level conversion for shaded or complex roofs, with per-panel monitoring.

Three-phase inverters

Higher-capacity units for larger homes and commercial supplies.

Brand matters for firmware, monitoring and battery compatibility. Victron is the off-grid and leisure benchmark; Sunsynk, Solis, Growatt, Solax and FoxESS cover most UK grid-tie and hybrid installs; Renogy is popular for 12V/24V campervan and off-grid setups. Our inverter comparison guide breaks down where each one fits.

Solar Inverters — common questions

What's the difference between a string and a hybrid inverter?

A string inverter just converts solar DC to AC. A hybrid inverter does that and also charges and discharges a battery, so it's the choice if storage is on your roadmap now or later.

Do I have to match the inverter brand to my battery?

For hybrid systems, battery compatibility is defined by an approved list per inverter — for example FoxESS inverters pair cleanly with FoxESS batteries. Check the compatibility list before buying; our comparison guide covers the main brands.
